Christ the Key: Discovering Jesus in the Biblical Story

Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
-Luke 24:26-27

Bible Study

Welcome

Welcome to the Unlocking Emmaus website—formerly known as The Biblical Narrative at biblicalnarrative.org. The word narrative simply means story, and the journey you’re about to begin is all about discovering the story of the Bible, whose central hero is Jesus.

The name Unlocking Emmaus comes from Luke 24, where the risen Jesus walks with two disciples on the road to Emmaus and opens their minds to everything the Scriptures said about him.

Basically, you could divide the story like this:

Genesis to Malachi – Jesus is coming

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John – Jesus is here

Acts to Revelation – Jesus is coming back

I am happy that you are choosing to take the journey to becoming a better student of the bible and to know it really well. I pray that your time spent over the 30 or so weeks will be fruitful and that you become transformed into the image of Christ more and more each day. The goal of this journey is to not only gain bible knowledge, but the most important goal is that you will see the heart of God through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and that it will change you.

NOTE: This biblical narrative journey is meant to be conducted in a group and/or individually with another believer who knows the bible well and can lead you through it.

Student Testimonies

Walking through the biblical narrative was a life‑changing experience. It helped so many of the scattered pieces come together into one cohesive story. Learning the culture and history of the time opened my eyes to why certain events unfolded the way they did. Overall, tracing the whole narrative helped me understand what I was reading and why it mattered.

I used to think the Bible was a collection of stories; bits and pieces of a story. With the Narrative I discovered my Bible for the first time. The TRUTH in its entirety! So thankful for the gift of understanding.

– Beckie F.

The first time I walked through the whole story of the Bible, I realized it was a single, unfolding narrative that actually made sense. It wasn’t just a collection of moral lessons or disconnected stories, but one continuous story of God’s love and grace from beginning to end. It was the box-top that showed the whole puzzle.

– Bryan

I am a visual learner. Through the narrative, I was able to fully comprehend God’s word; the timeline, and it made complete sense to me!
